Clyde W. Sleigh, (BIO) President of the Greater Los Angeles IMA
Chapter and President of SalesTaxBizCorp
(www.salestaxbiz.com)
Will be coming from California for a presentation on

"Sales Taxes: For California to Georgia and Beyond."

In a presentation geared for general audience, multistate sales and use tax
issues and strategies will be introduced. With a little Hollywood
entertainment along the way, insights into creative ways that companies
have addressed this particular area of state and local taxation will be
covered. Examples will focus on the states of Georgia and California, with
differences and similarities of certain other states will also be brought into
the discussion of certain matters for points of contrast.
Important topics will include business reorganizations (mergers,
divestures, and joint ventures), multistate transactions (planning
opportunities and mitigating liability exposure), and multistate drop
shipment issues. But, before exploring these and other more advanced
topics, a brief overview of sales and use tax basics will be provided first.
For better or worse, sometimes taxation ideas starting in California
spread across the country. With legislation effective January 1, 2014,
California will be phasing out its Enterprise Zones, and implementing a
new sales tax exemption for some manufacturing and biotechnology
companies. These changes will be presented.
Having started his career as an auditor himself, and dealing with state tax
auditors as part of regular ongoing audit defense client assignments,
Clyde will conclude this engaging and insightful presentation with trends
and changes as they pertain to field audits and appeals.
