In December (December 24th, 1930 to be exact) we celebrate the 82nd year of Atlanta IMA. As it seems that few institutions last that long, much less prosper and grow for that length of time, it's only proper that we recognize the success of YOUR chapter, which is only possible because of your dedication and all those who came before. Back in 1930, IMA was known as the National Association of Cost Accountants ("NACM"). The name has changed to recognize our advancing understanding scope of what we know as management accounting, but the mission has never changed. Over the years since it's founding the Atlanta Chapter has received many honors. Recently one of them came home. A former Chapter officer contacted me and returned one of our banners from 1983! This is a real "Banner" as was awarded back then, and is a real piece of chapter history. Many of you share that history; 252 of our members (30%) have been with IMA for 20 years or more, and many of you have served as officers. Let's make sure that any artifact of our long history gets back to us so the Chapter Secretary can store them and share some of that history with the next generation of IMA Professionals. I have been a member of the IMA for 16 years and am proud to have been affiliated with the Birmingham, Mobile and now the Atlanta Chapter, which is one of the largest Chapters in the world.
